Microsoft explores Windows 11 taskbar search box interface: using Windows 10 strip style

The Windows 11 taskbar is about to get a new feature, but it might not be what everyone expected. Microsoft is exploring a Windows 10-style search bar and developing a new design style for the taskbar’s search function.

It is reported that Microsoft has tested a new “Search” box on the left side of the taskbar. The search function that currently stays on the Windows 11 system taskbar is a search icon, and Microsoft now hopes to introduce a search bar similar to Windows 10, which naturally fits the overall design style of the Windows 11 system.

However, it is worth noting that this adjustment is limited to the presentation of the search function on the taskbar, and there is no visual change to the search function. Users can still search for apps, games, documents, pictures and web content. Microsoft has invited Windows Insider users on the Dev channel to test it out, and hopefully see you later this year.

But it’s undeniable that Windows 11’s current taskbar is still a mess, and many classic features are missing. The ability to drag and drop a file to an app pinned to the taskbar and open it is expected to return later this year, but the feature many users have been expecting has yet to appear on Windows 11.

But the search box isn’t the feature users are most eager to return. In fact, many users replace the search box with a simple icon when using Windows 10, and many users are used to opening the Start menu to search. And the feature that users most desire doesn’t look like it will be available anytime soon.
