Photos: Google is bringing even more magic to our Pixel phones soon

A few months ago, Google announced the first extension for the magic eraser. In a few days, the update for Google Photos should land on Google Pixel. Previously, the magic eraser in Google Photos could only remove objects from photos.

But that doesn’t always have to be the case and sometimes it might be a bad idea. But there should still be an option to make a photo appear more coherent with little work. Google has come up with another option for this.

Google Photos: Camouflage might be better than remove

There will soon be an option for coloring objects to match the rest of the image. But of course, most of the magic happens completely automatically. To date, the feature was only announced but is not usable. That’s about to change.

An example of what’s new in the Magic Eraser:

Google calls the feature “camouflage” in English. This ultimately means those disruptive elements are not removed but camouflaged. The software adjusts the color of the selected objects to match the rest of the image. This works well in the first examples shared by Mishaal Rahman for example.

Google Photos: When is the new feature coming?

We expect to roll out the change towards the end of the week or next week at the latest. Then the new Google Pixel 6a will be launched, it will be on sale from July 21st. I myself use the magic eraser now and then. But I could really well imagine that it is much more practical to adjust the color of objects and thus move them more into the background.

It can be assumed that the camouflage feature will be available on all Pixel devices that can already use the magic eraser.
