With the 2023 model year, Porsche introduced a few innovations to the Taycan, including Spotify, Android Auto, and a little more everyday range (the WLTP value remains the same). Now, this is also available as a large update.
And no, that’s not a typo in the text or in the headline, at Porsche they think it’s funny to call the update uPdate because the P stands for Porsche. You can find an overview of the new features below.
But there is a downside: the update “increases the ability to over-the-air updates”, but for this version, you have to go to the workshop. Depending on the year the Taycan was built, this can take shorter or longer (the older, the longer it takes).
22 kW onboard charger optionally available
Incidentally, with your stay, you can also buy a hardware upgrade for a fee: the option to charge at the wall box with 22 kW. The upgrade then also includes Plug & Charge (charging starts automatically, but only works if the corresponding charging station on-site supports it).
The Porsche update at a glance:
- Drive: In the “Normal” and “Range” driving modes, the front electric motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energized in the partial load range on the all-wheel drive models. When coasting and when stationary, both axes are free of drive torques. The electric freewheel reduces drag losses and increases the range. The all-wheel drive display is now shown as an energy flow display in the central display. This makes it easier to see the current operating status of the drives. The recuperation strategy has also been optimized. For example, the Auto-Reku setting is retained even if the driver changes the driving program. A gain in convenience for the customer. These improvements affect the Taycan model years 2020 and 2021.
- Thermal management: Better conditioning of the battery, especially when outside temperatures are low, means that the Taycan can be quickly charged more frequently overall and over a wider range of battery charge levels (SoC). For this purpose, for example, the waste heat from the electronic components is used even more than before to regulate the temperature of the battery. For the Taycan of the 2020 and 2021 model years, this allows for a longer range and shorter charging times.
- Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Porsche Connect: New functions, a colorful tile design on the start screen and even greater ease of use characterize the facelift measures in this area. After the update, voice control is optimized and the Spotify app is integrated into Taycans from model years 2020, 2021 and vehicles produced up to mid-February 2022. Android Auto is available wirelessly. Charging stations can be filtered and selected in the navigation according to charging capacity. Anyone driving a 2021 model year Taycan with a head-up display can look forward to the optimized display of the navigation map, for example. The display content has been expanded. In all Taycans before the model year 2023, the onboard operating instructions can now also be used via voice control.
- Assistance systems: Some systems can now support the driver in even more situations. The sensors of the parking assistant work with a larger range. The search for free parking spaces has also been improved so that smaller gaps are now also offered. Taycan model years 2020, 2021 and 2022 will benefit from these improvements.
- Activation of functions after vehicle purchase (FoD): The keyless opening function (comfort access) of doors and tailgate can now also be activated on request for all Taycans from model years 2020, 2021 and 2022. In addition, the possibility of software updates over-the-air (OTA) has been further expanded for the new model year.
