Google recently released the preview update to version 7.9 of its Android Auto platform which, among other news and improvements, has brought some changes to the appearance of the music and multimedia apps. Some Reddit users thought about exposing the news, and discussing the changes found in a thread; let’s find out what it is.
Android Auto beta 7.9 optimizes the appearance of the “now playing” screen
As Android Auto users are aware, within the platform all the music apps such as Spotify or YouTube Music, just to cite a couple of examples, share the same basic design, a choice made by Google to convey a sense to users. of graphical consistency, featuring a splash screen with recommendations and various tabs for playlists, library and other core elements of the running app.
In the corner there is then a shortcut that refers to the “now playing” screen which shows, also, in this case, the same basic design among all the apps: in this screen, we find various buttons (for example random playback, previous song, play – pause, next track, menu) which can change depending on the app and/or the content being played; in any case, the album cover (which is taken up, blurred, as background) is shown next to the song title, the artist name and the playing time.
The new update to the 7.9 beta version of Android Auto, as reported by some users on Reddit, brings with it a slight redesign of the “playing” screen: compared to the past, the progress bar around the play-pause button has disappeared, now replaced a dedicated progress bar that crosses the screen, from left to right, for most of the width. This is definitely a cleaner and more current design.
Another novelty invests the “playing” screen on displays with more generous dimensions. In this case, the blurred background no longer presents defects, as in the past, but actually expands across the entire width of the display; however, it seems that this tweak was already around with the release of Android Auto’s 7.8 beta .
These small but welcome changes are just some of those that Google is (slowly) making to the design of Android Auto: on the occasion of Google I / O 2022, the Mountain View giant announced a complete redesign of the platform that includes improvements to multitasking and greater adaptability to the various form factors of car displays.
Unfortunately, there is no timeframe for the arrival of this redesign but it is good to see that Google continues to constantly optimize and develop Android Auto, not smoothly.
