Volvo is currently rolling out a software update designed to unlock Apple CarPlay in 14 new regions, EV reports. The models that use Android Automotive as the operating system are apparently supplied. The vehicles should also support the next generation of CarPlay, which will make its debut together with Apple iOS 16.
The update should probably also be distributed in Germany and supply the Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge Pure Electric electric cars, for example. In total, more than 200,000 vehicles should be compatible with the Apple CarPlay update.
As you can see here, the car industry is now increasingly relying on firmware updates that retrofit functions. Polestar models also received CarPlay support in this way at the end of June 2022, for example.
