Chromecast with Google TV will now allow you to control home security

On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the Chromecast series, the Google team announced that Chromecast with Google TV will finally receive support for watching live video feeds from the new Nest devices.

In particular, according to what has been announced by the Mountain View giant, there are several devices supported by this feature, that is, all models of Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell (including those launched in 2021), such as Nest Cam (outdoor and indoor with battery), Nest Cam (indoor with cable), Nest Cam with projector and Nest Doorbell (with battery).

How to take advantage of the new Chromecast feature with Google TV

According to Google, users will be able to benefit from this new feature in a very simple way:

  • With the voice remote control of Chromecast, it will be enough to say from which device you want to start broadcasting the live feed (for example by saying “show me the front door camera” to see the doorbell feed)
  • With other devices enabled for Google Assistant, the command “Ok Google, show me the front door camera on my TV” will suffice

As explained by the Mountain View giant, the company’s goal is to allow users to control their home in an even easier way, without the need to take their eyes off the TV. The Google team specified that the new feature will be rolled out “starting this week” but you may need to be patient (and wait a few days or weeks) before it actually becomes available to all users globally.

At the moment the Mountain View giant has only named Chromecast with Google TV but the hope is that soon this feature can also be implemented in all other devices based on Android TV and Google TV.
