iPad Pro 2022 will be equipped with four-pin Smart Connector interfaces

According to the latest report, Apple is planning to release its upcoming next-generation iPad. Today, a new report claims that the iPad Pro 2022 12.9-inch and 11-inch will be equipped with a new four-pin Smart Connector. Previously, iPad Pro have a three-pin connector. In this year’s iPad Pro we will see four-pin connectors on the top and bottom edges.

The previous year’s iPad Pro design is most cherished and stylish but the rumors claim that the iPad Pro 2022 adopt the same design as the previous one. The only difference is the two four-pin connectors on the top and bottom edges.

The report speculates that these new connectors could help power peripherals connected to the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on the iPad Pro. It’s also worth noting that iPadOS 16 will allow device makers to create drivers for the iPad by adding DriverKit support. Accessory manufacturers can use the new “four-pin” connector to assist in the process. If Apple replaces the Smart Connector this year, it could break compatibility with existing Magic Keyboards and the like.

The existing Smart Connector uses a “three-pin” connector, while the MagSafe on Mac uses a “five-pin” connector. It means that Apple’s adoption of a “four-pin” connector on the iPad Pro 2022 will have a more special meaning.

Apple is working on updated iterations of the iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions, which are expected to be released in September or October this year. It was recently reported that Apple plans to delay the release of iPadOS 16 until October, which may coincide with the launch of the new iPad. The 2022 iPad Pro will be equipped with Apple’s M2 chip and MagSafe magnetic charging.
