A little over a year has passed since the introduction of the Game Dashboard tool (in that case with Android 12) by Google and, while now as then the function remains exclusive to the Google Pixel 6 series, for the entire range – including the new Google Pixel 6a has arrived – an updated version for Android 13 has just been released.
Google Play Services v22.30+: Game Dashboard
In particular, the new version was spotted by the usual Mishaal Rahman aboard Pixel 6a following the distribution of the 22.30 version of Google Play Services; owners of a Pixel 6 series model can simply satisfy their curiosity by entering Settings, then in the Google submenu and checking for the presence of the Game Dashboard item.
Functionality, for months at the center of numerous speculations, could be made available for other models right from the release of Android 13, but it’s still early to talk about this topic. Those who still do not know it simply know that, once the relative toggle is activated in the Settings, the Game Dashboard is shown every time a game is started: by default, it is a small arrow on the right or left side of the screen that with a tap recalls the icon of a game controller, whose tap launches the dedicated menu; this menu offers access to dedicated functions such as Do Not Disturb, frame rate, screen recording and shortcut for screenshots. The user can decide which shortcuts to have quickly available in Game Dashboard, but also stream to YouTube and take advantage of the game optimization tool.
At present, the Game Dashboard remains an exclusive gem of Google Pixel 6, Google Pixel 6 Pro and Google Pixel 6a and all the talk about the possibility that in the future it will also be made available for other Android devices descend from an assumption: while originally the function was part of SystemUIGoogle, with Android 13 it was moved from the system UI and integrated into Google Play Services. In short, even in the absence of confirmations, Google seems to have expressed its desire to open the function to all Android devices with access to GMS.
