Check the new Android 13 update roadmap and why A13 beta remains

The official stable version of Android 13 is here, but the end of the beta is not yet in sight. This is related to the QPR updates, which Google has also been testing publicly in its own beta program for some time.

Quarterly Platform Releases are the updates that come out each quarter for Google Pixel, along with Pixel Feature Drops. Google tests this firmware like complete Android versions through its own beta program and every Pixel owner can participate. That’s why the Android 13 beta is still active, even after the finished Android 13 has been released.

QPR updates will start beta soon

Google plans to release Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1 next September. This will be the first test version for the quarterly update, released in December for all Pixel 4a and higher devices. At this point, the first-pixel feature drop is coming and the QPR updates are the basis for this.

Anyone who doesn’t want to take part and is still participating in the beta program should therefore have their device unloaded quickly. Otherwise, you are “trapped” in the beta. So you can get out with the final Android 13 without having to erase your device. This will no longer be possible if you update Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1 in September.

Note: Google has been offering a beta program for Android for some time. In addition, owners of current Pixel smartphones can download the current test version wirelessly and easily onto their devices. Nevertheless, one should remember that the beta is never error-free and cannot necessarily be recommended for everyday use.

Google allows Pixel users to participate extensively in the beta program

Meanwhile, the beta program for Google Pixel runs almost continuously without a break and as early adopters, we like it quite well. First, a beta starts for completely new Android versions, then it runs for the QPR updates just explained. Until the next Android version is announced. In between, usually in spring, there is a beta for the next Android version and at the same time a beta for the next QPR update of the current Android version.
