Google plans to throw Android 4.4 KitKat maybe in 2023

Now, the latest version Android 13 rolled out last week for the Pixel phone with some amazing features. But this is about an ancient version of OS Android 4.4 Kitkat. Google support for so long this Android. Maybe coming year this OS can’t be used on any device. This is also good for the developer who will be going to work on something new.

Android 4.4 KitKat was using for many years now, but the use of this OS won’t stop until 2023. The next year is very special for this Android OS because the company will be celebrating the completion of 10 years. Now, this is the time when the company plans to stop supporting this OS. It will be possible in the summer of 2023.

Impact of stopping this Android 4.4 KitKat:

  • To support the Android 4.4 KitKat released in 2013 and for its libraries, version 25 will be released this year and this is the last time.
  • For the release of NDK r26 company planned that it requires at least Android Lolipop.
  • For developers stopping this version will be beneficial. The main reason for no longer using this version is that it doesn’t support some libraries and no longer addresses apps.

The current plan is for NDK r25 (2022 LTS) to be the last release that supports KitKat (APIs 19 and 20). NDK r26 (2023 LTS, so not until next summer) will not support minSdkVersions below 21 (Lollipop). Exact releases are subject to change if we discover unexpected costs.

We see, in this about an old version of OS Android 4,4 KitKat which no longer seen next year.
