Windows 11 builds 22621.586 and 22622.586 released for beta testers

Microsoft today released the latest update for the beta testers. These cumulative build numbers 22621.586 and 22622.586 contain no new features, but do contain numerous bug fixes to refine the release of the final version.

Build 22622.586 fixes

General

  • We fixed an issue causing DWM to hang (with black flickers or content stuck on the screen) for Insiders in 22622.575.
  • We fixed an issue that caused SQL Server Management Studio to fail to start for some Insiders.

File Browser

  • Fixed an issue where the left half of the File Explorer title bar could not be dragged with the mouse or touch for some Internet users.
  • Selecting multiple folders and using the context menu option to open them in a new tab will now actually open that, instead of opening the first folder in a new tab and all others in a new window.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Home, Documents, Pictures, and potentially other folders to be unexpectedly duplicated in the File Explorer navigation pane or appear on the desktop.
  • We fixed an explorer.exe crash that could occur when closing a newly opened File Explorer window.
  • Fixed an issue where the background of the search box in File Explorer could be the opposite color of the current mode (eg dark in light mode).
  • Fixed an issue where File Explorer could appear to open, close, and reopen before it finished drawing after being launched from certain locations (for example, when opening the location of a downloaded file from Microsoft Edge).
  • Fixed an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash when closing File Explorer.
  • The up arrow should no longer be misaligned in File Explorer.
  • Removed the toolbar that some people unexpectedly saw (with View/Edit/etc.) after the introduction of tabs in File Explorer. As part of this, the “always show menus” option in Folder Options was also removed, which did nothing.
  • Fixed an underlying crash of explorer.exe that could occur when File Explorer launch was aborted, for example, if you tried to access a network share from the Run dialog, you were prompted for credentials and failed. click cancel instead of entering them.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the delete key to unexpectedly not work on files in File Explorer.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause you to be unable to unpin the Desktop, Pictures, or Documents folders from Quick Access.
  • Fixed an issue where when dragging and dropping a folder to pin it to the navigation pane, the line indicating where to insert it would not have enough contrast in dark mode.
  • Fixed an issue where the min/max/close button might not be visible in File Explorer when using a contrast theme.

Taskbar

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the taskbar overflow flyout to unexpectedly appear on the opposite side of the screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the taskbar popup could appear to float out of the taskbar if it was opened after a screen resize.
  • Fixed an issue where right-clicking an app on the taskbar and selecting Close All Windows would cause the app to drop from the foreground if it needed attention before closing (for example, if the contents of a Notepad window had not been saved).
  • Fixed an issue where explorer.exe could crash if trying to rearrange app icons on the taskbar while taskbar overflow is open.
  • Fixed an issue for Insiders with at least two monitors, where if the monitors had different DPIs, the taskbar overflow could appear before it was needed or end up overlapping with the date and time on the monitor secondary.

Setting

  • Fixed a bug in Settings that could occur when uninstalling certain apps.
  • Fixed an issue where the buttons to change the current view in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps could unexpectedly show overlapping arrows on top.

Suggested actions

  • Fixed an issue where when Suggested Actions were enabled, if multiple items were copied in a row to clipboard history, some items might not appear after pressing WIN + V.
  • Your preferred state for the Suggested Actions setting in System > Clipboard should persist update as of this build.

Fixes for builds 22621.586 and 22622.586

  • We have fixed an issue where some Lenovo devices were not receiving updates as expected.
  • We fixed an issue that caused domain credentials to not work for some Insiders in the previous Beta Channel flight.
  • We fixed an issue where the “Sync across all devices” option in Settings > System > Clipboard wouldn’t stay on.
We have fixed an issue affecting Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG). Delays or stops the opening of MDAG.
  • We fixed an issue affecting URLs generated by JavaScript: URLs. These URLs do not work as expected when added to the favorites menu in IE mode.
  • We fixed an issue that forced IE mode tabs to reload in one session.
  • We have fixed an issue affecting opening in IE mode.
  • We have fixed an issue that successfully opens a browser window in IE mode to display a PDF file. Subsequently, browsing to another site in IE mode within the same window fails. 40411607
  • Fixed an issue that could bypass MSHTML and ActiveX rules for Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC).
  • We have fixed an issue affecting the SharedPC account manager. The issue prevents many accounts from being deleted during the cleanup.
  • We have fixed an issue affecting the static IP of a network. The problem causes the static IP configuration to be inconsistent. Because of this, NetworkAdapterConfiguration() fails sporadically.
  • We have fixed an issue affecting FindNextFileNameW() which could potentially suffer from a memory leak.

Known issues with builds 22621.586 and 22621.586

General

  • We are investigating reports that audio has stopped working for some Insiders in the latest Beta Channel builds.
  • [NEW] A small percentage of Insiders may experience repeated crashes of explorer.exe in this build after attempting to access certain folders on their system.
  • Insiders who have the Xbox Dev Kit installed will experience this issue. We are working on a fix for this on a future flight.

File Browser

  • We are working on fixing an issue where the taskbar cannot be displayed if File Explorer is maximized and you have the taskbar set to auto-hide.
