New ChromeOS welcome screen with ‘glanceable’ widgets

A few weeks ago, Google announced that it brought glanceable to ChromeOS, just like At A Glance in the Pixel series phone. Now Google rolling out New ChromeOS with glanceable widgets. Some weeks ago, an update said that the company brings a new feature to ChromeOS which brings glanceable widgets to your Chromebook’s Desktop.

Through this feature, some widgets are visible on the desktop like current weather. Widgets are very useful things on the phone, and they also give us quick updates on frequently using the app of phones. With Widget, you get quick notifications and don’t need to open the app. Now, google introduced this feature as a welcome screen for ChromeOS. With this ChromeOS acknowledge that this is your first day. The company refers to this feature as Productivity Experiment, which same as when the ChromeOS launcher gets the new design.

Productivity Experiment: Reorient with a welcome screen

When a user is about to start a new task, provide them with relevant information and tools to help them orient and get started.

When this feature is enabled in your Chromebook then your welcome screen will appear on your desktop. At the moment the main element is a simple “Welcome back ” message, just below it you find the current weather.

What is New in this glances able feature?

  • In this, there are two sections titledĀ  “Up next” and “Restore the last session.” Up next shows upcoming events for today from your Google Calendar, just like At A Glance area on Pixel smartphone.

Google plans that Restore the last session area to include a full screenshot of the last work done by you on the Chromebook. When you click on the screenshot it reopens all your last work windows as left them.

After opening the new app and window the welcome screen disappears. They still working on this when the welcome widget reappears, but for now, they are Up the next button to the top-left of the desks. The welcome screen feature still has time to publish.
