YouTube introduced a new interface for Android

YouTube officially updates its interface: a black theme, ‘Ambient Mode’ and other video player updates. The YouTube team has officially announced new features and design updates to the player that it has been testing over the past few months, among them:

  • Ambient Mode (Desktop, Android, iOS)
  • The dark theme is now Black (Desktop, Android, iOS, Smart TVs.)
  • New Playlist design (Android, iOS)
  • Redesigned buttons below videos (Desktop, Android, iOS)
  • Pinch to zoom gesture to easily zoom in and out of a video while on your iOS or Android phone. (Android, iOS)
  • Precise seeking: drag or swipe up while seeking to display a row of thumbnails in the video player. (Android, iOS)

All of these changes will start rolling out starting today.
