Android 14 may come with the NTFS support

For the past years, Google worked on making Android will support the new file format. Now, it looks like Android 14 will come with the support of the NTFS format. Initially, Android was able to connect to FAT drives. That makes things a little inflexible. At this time most devices come with NTFS support.

And so you can not connect Android smartphones with them by default. Pixel phones have been slowly transitioning to exFAT support since Android 13.

NTFS, also a format developed by Microsoft, has a different story when it comes to Linux support. The read/write capabilities of NTFS were not integrated into the kernels until version 5.15.

While there is an Android 13 kernel based on this version, it was not officially brought to the Pixel phones. NTFS support isn’t that simple either. The biggest problem was that the Volume Daemon, Android’s storage-mounting service, had to be updated to support NTFS.

Lastly, in the coming updates, this issue will resolve. But in Android 13 we will probably not see NTSF support, not even with a later update. But Android 14 is looking pretty good.
