Yesterday Google introduced new features for its Play Store like Play Store testing Gmail like a bottom bar. This usually takes you to different tabs of the respective app. This feature was first introduced in Gmail. And Google redesigned the Blocked by Play Protect window.
Now, another piece of news about Google’s products is on the surface. Google released the Glass Enterprise Companion app and YouTube Music Recap 2022 while Google also working on making OTA updates faster.
Google Glass Enterprise Companion App
Google has released the Glass Enterprise Companion app, exclusive to the Pixel 5 and newer. The app is designed to configure Glass Enterprise Edition 2 devices with the ability to: share Wi-Fi networks, set time zones, set the Glass system language, and adjust brightness and volume.
In addition, applications integrated into Glass Enterprise can be managed using this app. As early access, users have access to:
- Language – Enabling transcription and translation between multiple languages.
- Google Tasks – Integration with Google Tasks to show users’ task lists and engage in reading, completing, and updating tasks.
- Enterprise Camera – Capability to take photos and videos and save them directly to the paired phone.
YouTube Music Recap 2022
YouTube Music released Recap 2022 with story-like statistics and integration with Google Photos. In the format of stories, the music service summarizes your year in music, collecting your favorite tracks, music type, and more. It is located under the “Watch Now” button. You’re also encouraged to link your favorite tracks to pictures from Google Photos. When you open the Recap 2022 page, you will see the corresponding card.
Google OTA Update
Google is working on making OTA updates faster. A new set of patches has been submitted to AOSP that speed up OTAs on devices that use the virtual A/B with compression update mechanism. Combined, these improvements bring a full OTA to install time from ~23 minutes to ~13 minutes! The first improvement is to batch-write COW operations in a cluster. The second improvement is to use two threads to compress the snapshot.
