This March, Google Docs offered “Lightweight markup language for applying to format using plain text,” as the name suggests, Markdown. Google Docs is currently expanding its support for some Markdown syntax that it already recognizes. Code blocks, Google’s most recent Smart canvas feature for Docs, make it simpler to format and display code.

Add Realmicentral to your Google News feed.  

Paste or write your code, then select Insert > Building blocks to access the new Code block menu once it is implemented. The five accessible choices are C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, and Disconnected.

In Google Docs, code blocks have a light gray background and indicate the language used in the top left corner. “Collaborators who wanted to present code manually apply styles by highlighting syntax” in the past.

The objective is to enhance collaboration and make code in Google Docs easier to read. In addition to the menu, adding is as simple as using @-search > Code blocks > selecting your programming language. Those who enable Markdown can type “and press Enter.
