However, the company states that full electrification will be possible wherever market conditions permit. This announcement still comes with a small caveat. To construct batteries, powertrains, and axles for the upcoming EV platforms, numerous Mercedes plants have been repurposed or provided with new production tools.

In 2024, production will begin in most facilities and begin supplying existing EQ models. On the map below, you can see both the old and new plants that makeup Mercedes’ new EV production network. The fact that powertrains are manufactured in 14 locations across three continents including Kuppenheim. Mercedes intends to construct a battery recycling facility, which makes the process particularly intriguing.

But this is only one part of the strategy. Repurposing facilities, training new and existing employees, logistics, research, and development. And other aspects will necessitate a significant investment of time and resources to make the switch to the production of fully electric vehicles.

Lastly, Mercedes doesn’t plan to stop making conventional and hybrid engines anytime soon because it thinks that by 2025, about half of its cars will be electric or plug-in hybrids.
