According to a section of Google’s CSE support page, administrators will have significant control over who in the company has access to the keys, as well as the ability to monitor users’ encrypted files. End-to-end encryption, on the other hand, prevents administrators from viewing encrypted user files.

Google clarifies that certain features, such as the Confidential mode, signatures, Smart Compose, translation, and summaries, will not be accessible through CSE email. Additionally, CSE on Gmail prevents third-party add-ons from accessing the encrypted message’s plain-text contents and prohibits users from searching the message’s body.

Client-side encryption is suggested by the support page for “highly regulated” industries like the government, aerospace, and financial institutions. CSE is already available for Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, and Meet, according to Google, while the beta version of the feature is available for Calendar.

Lastly, until January 20, 2023, eligible customers can apply to test the Gmail client-side encryption beta. Google did not provide a timetable for when CSE will be available in Gmail for iOS or Android.
