Pixel Watch supports Android’s Context Hub Runtime Environment (CHRE) API

The Pixel Watch is the first wearable that supports Android’s Context Hub Runtime Environment (CHRE) API, Android’s standardized API for running nanoapps on a low-power sensor hub. However, it doesn’t seem to be currently used for anything, as there are only two nanoapps listed in /vendor/etc/chre on the Pixel Watch: power_test_tcm and sample.

We wonder if CHRE was implemented just to make the Pixel Watch a “reference device” or if it’ll be used for something down the line, like the promised fall detection feature.

Would love for someone to check /vendor/etc/chre when the Pixel Watch’s January 2023 update rolls out with fall detection. Anyway, wee noticed this last week when wee was looking for hints to see if the Nothing Phone 1 would support car crash detection, as the Pixel uses CHRE for that feature.
