The release of iOS 16.2, Apple stops signing iOS 16.1.2

Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.1.2, the version of iOS that was previously available, following the release of iOS 16.2 on December 13. After installing the iOS 16.2 updates, it is no longer possible to downgrade to an earlier version of iOS because iOS 16.1.2 is no longer signed.

To encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date, Apple regularly stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases are released.

As a result, it is not uncommon for the updates to no longer be signed. iOS 16.1.2 was a minor update that added crash detection optimizations for iPhone 14 models and improved compatibility with wireless carriers. Apple has added the Freeform app, support for Apple Music Sing, expanded iCloud encryption with Advanced Data Protection, and a lot more in the iOS 16.2 update that replaces it.

Lastly, all of these changes are outlined in our dedicated iOS 16.2 guide. It is the biggest update to iOS 16 that we have seen so far.
