In a blind camera test, Google’s Pixel phones have topped the chart for the second year in a row, with the Google Pixel 6a and Google Pixel 7 Pro placing first and second, respectively.

The results of a blind camera test that compares and contrasts the most recent smartphones were published today by Marques Brownlee, better known for his brand MKBHD. For the past few years, this test has been conducted, pitting the best smartphone cameras of the year against one another with social media voting for the best picture.

However, the test for this year was altered to run through a separate website that provides a much more controlled comparison. The two photos were shown to the people voting and they were asked to choose the better one. Even the results lacked information about which device took the photo because there was no way to tell which phone took it. The following devices were eventually used in the test.

  • Huawei Mate 50 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • Moto Edge 30 Ultra
  • Nothing Phone (1)
  • OnePlus 10 Pro
  • Oppo Find X5 Pro
  • Google Pixel 6a
  • Realme 10 Pro+
  • Asus ROG Phone 6
  • Apple iPhone SE
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Sony Xperia 1 IV
  • Xiaomi 12s Ultra
  • Asus Zenfone 9
  • Vivo X80 Pro+

In this blind camera test, the Google Pixel 6a defeated the Pixel 5a from last year to win the title of “Best Overall.” The Asus Zenfone 9 completed the top three in this category, placing the Pixel 7 Pro in second place.

Several devices in this test

The iPhone 14 Pro came in second place, two spots below the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Oppo Find X5 Pro was the device with the highest score for the “Best Standard” shot. Although the Pixel 6a came in second, “Best Low Light” was not mentioned, and “Best Portrait” was the Pixel 7 Pro. Nearly all measurements rated the Sony Xperia 1 IV and Moto Edge 30 Ultra as the worst cameras.

Marques breaks down several trends in the results in the full video, which is definitely worth watching.
