Android 13 QPR 2 Beta 2 added 21 new emojis, auto-generate themed icons and other Pixel Tablet dock and stylus work and more

Google recently released the Android 13 QPR 2 Beta 2 for eligible devices. In the latest update, Google fixed an issue with the System UI that sometimes caused the Home screen to become unresponsive. Also, in the new update, the new taskbar for tablets and foldable devices is now enabled by default. Now, other reports are claims some new information that was added in the Android 13 QPR 2 Beta 2. Let’s check the complete details.

Android 13 QPR 2 Beta 2 Pixel Launcher

Pixel Launcher is experimenting with the option of automatically generating Themed icons. Due to the lack of app developers’ enthusiasm, Google apparently decided to consider this feature after all. The new version of the Pixel Launcher has a new developer flag, ENABLE_FORCED_MONO_ICON, whose description reads: “Enable the ability to generate monochromatic icons if it is not provided by the app”.

Pixel Tablet Dock & Stylus Will Work

When you dock the Pixel Tablet, charging will be paused when the battery reaches a certain level (likely 80%). This is called “dock defender” & builds on the Pixel’s “battery defender” (Adaptive Charging) feature. You can temporarily bypass this to charge the tablet to full.

Shortcuts

Seems Android now supports showing a “Shortcuts” page in Settings > Display > Lock screen that will let you customize the shortcuts on the lock screen (internally called “keyguard quick affordances”).

Smart Home

Android 13 lets you control your smart home devices from the lock screen if the app supports it, but you need to toggle “show device controls” in Settings > Display > Lock screen. QPR2 Beta 2 suggests enabling this if you try to toggle a device from the lock screen a few times.

Other Changes

Right now, the two Keyguard Quick Affordances that are shown by default in Android 13 are the Wallet and QR Code shortcuts. Some of the additional lock screen shortcuts you may be able to pick in the future include one to launch a camera app and one to toggle the flashlight.

At least on the Pixel 7, there’s a new shared library called aoc_audio_stereo_spatializer that’s probably for enabling spatial audio over the phone’s stereo speakers. The “phone speaker” option isn’t available yet in Settings > Sound & vibration > Spatial audio, though.

As we mentioned before, there’s an in-development partial screen-sharing feature. You’ll be able to launch an “app selector” interface from the “Start Recording” dialog that’ll look like this.

In QPR2 Beta 2, there’s a new system property called ‘euicc.seamless_transfer_enabled_in_non_qs’ that controls whether eSIM profile transfers should be enabled when going through the standard SetupWizard.

eSIM

You might soon be able to transfer an eSIM profile from an old Android phone to a new phone or convert a profile on a physical SIM card into an eSIM profile. Support for transferring profiles is being implemented in Google’s SIM Manager app the LPA on Pixel and many GMS devices. We don’t think transferring eSIM profiles between devices is defined in the eSIM spec, so I don’t know which devices will support this. I’m guessing you’ll be able to at least transfer eSIM profiles between Pixels. As for converting a SIM profile into an eSIM profile, that’ll probably be even more limited, as it’d depend on whether the carrier of that profile supports eSIM activation.
