Material library got a new Carousel component and Nearby Share now fully integrated in Files

Material Library

This component contains a collection of items that can move in and out of the field of view. It can be used, for example, in Google Photos memory cards or thumbnails of images of places in Google Maps.

Carousel appeared in the Material Components Android 1.9.0-alpha01 release and is built on top of RecyclerView. Most likely not very stable yet.

Nearby Share

Google is now working better with its own Files App. Nearby Share for Android is to be set up much more extensively in the long term. The main changes are seen on the main menu which now shows “Nearby Share” and no longer just “Share”.

Apart from the above the rest technical changes are unknown because Nearby Share was the sharing function of the Files app anyway. Integration with other platforms like Windows is now finally moving forward. Google recently put off the fact that integration was a very big challenge.
