According to the latest report, here’s a first look at the new Fast Pair-powered setup experience for Android phones. The device is set up broadcast its status via Fast Pair, and any Fast Pair-supporting Android phones nearby will get a half-sheet popup that opens a QR code scanner.
At least on Pixel phones, there’s no additional step beyond what I’ve shown in the above photos. OEM devices may ask you to install an app to facilitate settings/data transfer, as 9to5Google reported earlier.
We saw some confusion about this feature, so just to clarify, this just speeds up the initial discovery of devices in the setup process. It does not improve what gets backed up/restored, make transfers faster, etc.
