Android 14 settings are starting to update the switches and Fast Pair settings are back

According to the latest report, Settings is starting to update the MD3 switches. The switches we see now are essentially an early version of them. Google introduced the new Material Design 3 Switches in the alpha channel a year ago, which then became stable closer to mid-autumn.

So far, Google hasn’t been in as much of a hurry to implement them in its apps, but we’re already seeing the first steps in the Android Settings app. So far, the new toggles can be found on the permission request page, “App info” and ‘App notifications’ settings. Most likely it’s all part of the refactoring of the settings app, codenamed ‘SPA’.

This page first appeared in Android 13 Developer Preview 2 and then disappeared in beta 3. It hasn’t undergone any changes since then. For now, Fast Pair is a part of Google Play Services, but a year ago Google started working on its implementation in AOSP by making this function a Mainline module (updatable via Google Play system updates).
