Google launch the Camera 8.8 update to Pixel 6/Pro

Google Camera version 8.8 is not yet widely available, but it brings faster Night Sight to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

The choice between faster Night Sight and long exposure times is being made available through an update to the Google Camera app, even though it was announced as part of the Pixel Feature Drop this month. It is not enabled by installing Android 13 QPR2 alongside the security update for March 2023, which was already late for the Pixel 6 series.

On Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, a new button appears in the Night Sight tab’s bottom-right corner after updating to Google Camera 8.8. The time it takes to capture an image with Faster Night Sight is just two seconds, but you can also set it to “Max” for up to six seconds.

The “camera v8.8 update is becoming available for users on a rolling basis” was shared on Reddit by an official Google account. This is “happening independently of the March software update” and is meant to “optimize for quality.”

To optimize for quality, the camera v8.8 update is becoming available for users on a rolling basis. This is happening independently of the March software update. We hope this information helps!

Before making a significant Camera update widely available, Google has previously released new versions with additional patches. Version 8.8 began rolling out to other devices (the 4a, 5, and 7 series) via the Play Store two weeks ago and appears to be fully operational. In the interim, Pixel 6 owners can attempt to sideload the update, but that is not the case.

In the interim, Camera 8.8 changes the zoom bar on the Pixel 7 and 7 Master with a more simple UI. With this release, there are no other obvious changes.
