Android 12: These smartphones will receive the update to Google’s new OS

Android 12 Update List

Android 12 Update List

Google’s new Android 12 operating system has been on the market for a few months and the successors, about which a lot has already become known: Android 12L and Android 13, have long been pushing to the light. But we’re not there yet, because many users are waiting for the rollout of Android 12. We’ll show you current lists of all major smartphone manufacturers who want to update their devices to the current operating system.

Android 12 has been rolled out on the first smartphones since the beginning of November, with Pixel users, as usual, and a little later the first Samsung users to look forward to. But who can be happy about that outside of the Google and Samsung universe? The update situation is known to be one of the biggest problems with Android and will not have improved significantly with the update from Android 11 to Android 12. The smartphone manufacturers still have all the time in the world and in most cases they are not really in a hurry.

In the last few weeks, after a long break, some other smartphone manufacturers have spoken up and announced which smartphones will receive the update and when. Some lists do not specify dates and others simply refer to their update guarantee, which you can then simply combine with the start of sales to get an approximate list. Apart from the big flagships, the only security is with the Pixel smartphones anyway, since Google has usually completed the update within a few days. But that was also scratched on for the first time with Android 12 and will hopefully not become the norm.

Here are the lists of the major smartphone manufacturers without any guarantee. It is a mix of official sources, leaked lists and just speculation – the respective status is given. Smartphones that came onto the market in 2020 and 2021 have very good chances, from 2019 things will become critical and in 2018 unfortunately, only a miracle can help.

Google

Google’s update lists are permanently officially visible and have not been shaken so far. Owners of the second and first Pixel generation should start thinking about a new smartphone. The third generation of Pixel smartphones received the last version update with the update to Android 12 and received the last regular security update in October 2021. Smaller updates follow (t)en, but officially it is now “out”.

Samsung

Samsung only officially commented shortly after the rollout to the Galaxy S21, which took place in December and published lengthy update lists in some countries. At the end of 2021, the time had finally come in Germany so that the following list – which was previously of a rather provisional nature – is now reliable and can be seen as a guarantee.

Galaxy S

Galaxy Note

Galaxy Z & Galaxy Fold

Galaxy A

Galaxy Tab

Galaxy M

Galaxy X cover

Xiaomi

Xiaomi had already officially announced a shortlist in summer 2021, but of course, many more smartphones will be provided with updates. The list of 71 smartphones that are to be updated to Android 12 over the next few months has been circulating since the end of August:

Blackshark

Xiaomi Mi

POCO

Redmi

ASUS

ASUS may not be the first brand that springs to mind when it comes to smartphones, but the company was one of the first to comment on the Android 12 updates, publishing the following list:

Vivo

Vivo is still in the niche in this country, but is slowly breaking out of it and is of great importance worldwide as a smartphone brand. It’s no wonder that the list of devices available in this country is getting longer and that the company is still exemplary when it comes to Android updates. Transparent communication, keeping the promise including the schedule.

Motorola

Motorola only spoke up at the end of 2021 and revealed which smartphones should receive the update to Android 12. In addition, a long list of features has been announced, but these are actually only improvements implemented by Google. Be that as it may, the following smartphones are scheduled to receive the update from February 2022 (with no end date):

Business edition phones

LG

LG exited the smartphone market a few months ago, but has nevertheless announced (or promised?) that it intends to update the following smartphones to Android 12. It remains to be seen whether this will actually be adhered to and how long it will take.

OnePlus

OnePlus is slowly evolving from an exemplary manufacturer to the black sheep of the industry, because an official list has still not been made public. The first smartphones are said to have already received the update (OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro), but otherwise, the following list is simply based on speculation based on the update promise and the start of sales.

OPPO

A few weeks ago, Oppo distributed a list of smartphones that should receive the Android 12 update. However, no timetable has been given, so if you own one of the following devices, you simply have to wait until the update is offered to you.

Sony

Sony started rolling out Android 12 to the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III a few days ago but otherwise hasn’t announced an official list. Accordingly, the following list is based on the usual conclusions from the update promise and release date:

Nokia

After the initial euphoria, everyday life has long since returned to Nokia, because the lofty promises can no longer be kept, the update to Android 11 has even been given up for some devices and there has also not been an official Android 12 list. So here is the list based on the launch of the smartphones in combination with the promised three years of updates. The X20, X10 and XR20 are said to have already received the update from the first users.
