OnePlus will introduce CPU performance throttling switch in Android 12

Earlier, due to the secret restrictions imposed on mobile phone performance in the benchmark project, Geekbench has announced that the OnePlus 9 will be banned. However, the mobile phone manufacturer with the slogan Nothing will be done seems to be ready to introduce a toggle switch for the CPU throttling setting in the Android 12 update. Although the specific implementation may have to wait until next year, I believe that the majority of users will welcome this setting option.

According to the official statement of OnePlus, CPU throttling is to extend battery life and control heat generation. But in the implementation process, the company did make two mistakes that should have been avoided. Considering that Apple has implemented notorious performance throttling on iPhones with poor battery conditions, OnePlus really should not continue to hide this fact from OnePlus 9 users.

The good news is that before the release of the new Nord 2 machine, the company is re-evaluating CPU throttling measures and is considering providing users with the option of manually turning on or off this optimization mode:

Because the performance of the chips is not the same, we want to ensure that each device can take into account the best performance and efficiency, so we implemented different levels of performance optimization on the OnePlus 9R and Nord 2. However, in view of the clear feedback from users and propositions, our R&D team is currently working hard to introduce an option to allow users to manually turn on or off this optimization mode and better control the performance of the phone. Our goal is to provide this solution through one of the first releases of OxygenOS 12.

However, there are still some problems with this commitment. On the one hand, users must first realize that their device is in the so-called optimization mode, and OnePlus is unlikely to promote this controversial feature with much fanfare. On the other hand, this option can only be enabled on OxygenOS 12 devices based on Android 12. According to OnePlus’ own testing and launch schedule, we are likely to wait until later this year.
