Edge 98 Beta released 3 new group policies enhance internet security

Microsoft Edge 98 Beta for Windows, macOS and Linux was released today. The update focuses on security features, using new group policies to enhance the Super Duper Secure Mode Edge introduced last year. The mode is live in the stable release and can be enabled in settings, privacy, search, and services.

This more secure browser experience, currently available in Balanced and Strict options, provides additional protection against malware by enabling hardware-enforced stack protection, Arbitrary Code Guard (ACG), and Content Flow Guard (CFG).

In Microsoft Edge 98 Beta, administrators can enable 3 new group policies to make this browsing mode more secure and protect users from zero-day vulnerabilities. “These strategies also allow important websites and line-of-business applications to continue to work as intended,” the Edge team explained in the release notes.

Another important new security feature in Microsoft Edge 98 is the ability to set a custom master password to allow Edge to automatically fill in your passwords on the web. Currently, Microsoft Edge can autofill saved passwords, or ask for your device password before doing so, but Insiders in the beta channel can now set a custom master password to have their saved passwords autofill on the web.

Finally, Microsoft Edge 98 brings a small visual change, with scroll bars now featuring an overlay-based design, a feature that currently needs to be manually turned on in Edge’s flags menu. Microsoft Edge 98 should be released on the stable channel later this month, and you can find all the release notes for the beta and stable channels on this page.
