According to the latest report, On August 15, Microsoft announced its update plan which will disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for WebView controls in Internet Explorer and EdgeHTML (the kernel of the old Edge browser) on September 13, 2022.
Previously, the US tech giant scheduled to phase out TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in October 2018 but due to the spread of coronavirus in 2020, it had to revise the schedule. Now, Microsoft is preparing to scrap this outdated security standard in its Internet Explorer browser and older Edge browsers.
Microsoft has not completely disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1. For compatibility, companies that require TLS 1.0 and 1.1 can re-enable them through Group Policy or in Internet Explorer in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.
In addition, the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 as early as Edge 84. Transport Layer Security (TLS) is used to provide confidentiality and data integrity between two communicating applications. The protocol consists of two layers: TLS Record and TLS Handshake.
