OnePlus Nord 2 may be released in the second quarter using MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset

Android Central reported that OnePlus is about to launch its first mid-range smartphone without a Qualcomm chipset. If the news is reliable, we are expected to see OnePlus Nord 2 with MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset in the second quarter of 2021. As a new member of the MediaTek Dimensity family, it uses a 6nm process node, supplemented by Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores.

Currently, we focus mainly on the upcoming arrival later this month of a plus 9 new system is said to OnePlus 9/9 Pro camera specifications will be further improved.

However, in addition to its cost-effective flagship, the company has also increased its efforts in the mid-range market in recent years. As one of the best-selling models in the Indian market, the successor to the OnePlus Nord series is also worthy of attention.

Android Central quoted a reliable insider as saying: The upcoming mid-range new machine will be named Nord 2 and will use the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset.

For OnePlus, this is a huge change. Previously, the company used Qualcomm chips in all its models, and Nord was the first product line that did not use the flagship 800 series Snapdragon chipset.

In 2020, OnePlus has successively launched Nord N10 5G/N100 smartphones with Snapdragon 600/400 chipsets in some markets. The MediaTek Dimensity 1200, which was released earlier this year, is obviously also favored by the company.

It is reported that Dimensity 1200 uses a 6nm process node, with a Cortex-A78 high-performance core at 3.0 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 low-power cores at 2.0 GHz.

In addition, the Dimensity 1200 chipset integrates a nine-core Mali-G77 GPU, which supports the global 5G network standard, and even the 5G dual-card dual-standby function that Qualcomm has not introduced in 2021.

For MediaTek, Dimensity 1200 obviously also reversed many people’s inherent impression of the company’s chipset and soon attracted a number of smartphone manufacturers including OPPO, Xiaomi, Vivo, LG, etc.

As for the price of the OnePlus Nord 2, the retail price of the new OnePlus Nord mid-range machine in India last year was only 24999 rupees (about 2226 RMB).

However, in terms of chipset performance, Dimensity 1200 obviously has a major upgrade compared to Snapdragon 765G, allowing Nord 2 to compete with the new OnePlus 9 series. We expect to hear more details about the new products in the coming weeks.
