Apple extended to repair iPhone 12 Pro/Max cracked back cover glass

According to a MacRumors report, last month, it was reported that Apple had introduced a new same-device repair method. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models showed some problems and usually needed to be replaced. Now, Apple has expanded these same device repairs to cover iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models.

Apple Store and Apple Authorized Service Providers can obtain the new “iPhone Rear System” parts, which is essentially an iPhone shell, including all components except the display and the rear camera. According to an Apple memo obtained by foreign media, starting this week, this part can be used in all four iPhone 12 series models.

For example, if the back cover glass of the customer’s iPhone 12 Pro is cracked, the Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the rear of the entire device with the iPhone Rear System component, while retaining the customer’s original display and rear camera. Therefore, the iPhone’s display and rear camera must be free of damage or problems in order for the device to be eligible for onboard repair.

According to Apple, if the iPhone 12 model fails to turn on, or encounters problems with the logic board, Face ID system, or device casing, such as a cracked rear cover glass, it may be eligible for repair on the same device. It is reported that the new repair method will be provided in all countries and regions where iPhone 12 models are sold.

Apple reiterated in the memo that this move supports the company’s ongoing commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of every product it sells.
