The development work seems quite normal. After deploying a new thread creation model around io_uring, the performance of diffstat has been greatly improved; sparc has an unusual performance in terms of architecture update, but other things used are normal: Driver (gpu, net, usb, staging, sound… all), architecture (x86, arm64, s390, powerpc, except for the sparc already mentioned), file system (cifs, nfs) and core kernel (networking, VM , timers, scheduler, etc.). Judging from the announcement, Linux 5.12 will be a fairly “normal” cycle. If there are no major problems with the candidate version in the next few weeks, the official version will be released at the end of April this year.
