The concept map of Microsoft’s Windows 10 Sun Valley is exposed

Windows 10 21H2, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of this year, also known as “Sun Valley“, is the most important interface upgrade in the history of Win10. For a long time, rumors about the Sun Valley have been raging, but no screenshots have been released.

A few days ago, foreign media released a “concept video” of Sun Valley, which gave us a more intuitive impression for the first time. It is worth noting that although it is a “concept map” version, most of the UI inside is made based on the graphics and texts that have been leaked today, with a high degree of realism!

Start Menu

The “Start Menu” is a place that everyone is more concerned about, and there are the most speculations about it. Compared with the current version, the design of the concept map is remarkable. The first is the rounded corners and the suspension design. These two points have actually been mentioned before, but when they really appear in the renderings, you can still feel a rush of exquisiteness.

In addition to the changes in the corners, the module spacing has also been enlarged. This small change is actually not small. In addition to bringing more breath to the interface, the “boundary” between the modules has also begun to change. To be more clear. It is worth mentioning that the account avatar and search bar have also been moved to the upper right corner. This is a bit like the design of an earlier version of Win10. Overall the effect is good, and the picture is more agile.

Operation Center

The operation center has absorbed a lot of experience in Windows 10X. Simply put, notifications are notifications, and operations are operations. In addition to the changes in the interface layout, many “new elements” have also been incorporated, such as the shortcut toolbar in the lower right corner and the music control panel in the middle.

Of course, there is also a small problem here, that is, the shortcut tool is obviously duplicated in the start menu, although there will be practical considerations. But I personally think that this is just the result of copying the Win10X design, and it does not need to be true as a concept version.

The operation center adds a page-turning button, which actually copied the design in Win10X. Its basic logic is: click the button to open and close and click the right arrow to enter the setting panel.

Settings Panel

The setting interface continues the current style, but the details are different. For example, the Fluent Design is more unified with the interface, and the title bar is more distinct than the current version, and so on. But what left me the deepest impression of this picture is not there, but a small module called “Compact mode” in it.

Its Chinese meaning can be understood as “compact mode”, which should be designed for small screen devices. A mode. What’s interesting is that the author actually added a centered menu in it, that’s right! The design is exactly the same as Win10X.

File Manager

As another “old project” that has been fired for N years, the UWP version of file explorer is naturally indispensable. In general, the concept map gave us little shock (after all, I have fired N many times), Fluent Design, multi-label, a new version of ICON……. Although these changes are new, they do not cover all the features of the current version of the explorer, such as the missing shortcut buttons (back, forward, up), no address bar design (to facilitate quick jump or copy path information), etc., Will bring inconvenience to daily use.

But putting aside the red tape above, the concept version still brings us some new ideas. For example, in folder encryption, you need to enter the password before entering the encrypted folder (currently Windows is account-level EFS encryption). In the quick transfer window, you can directly transfer files to the mobile phone by dragging and dropping, etc. In addition to innovative ideas, these changes can also bring us more help in terms of work efficiency.

More Powerful Drag

Drag and drop have been given new life in the concept version. An obvious example is that when you need to quote the content of an email, you can do it directly by dragging and dropping. Of course, you can also see a new version of “Mail and Calendar” here, with a simpler interface + a new version of Fluent Design, which looks good!

Automatic Dark Theme

The dark theme already exists in Win10, but the actual experience is not good due to insufficient coverage of the current UWP. In the concept version of Sun Valley, the author planned a new dark mode for us, with more harmonious color matching and more comprehensive theme coverage. The most important thing is that the dark mode can automatically switch with time. Well, it’s the same as the current night mode.

New version icon

The icon is also a more obvious change in the concept version. While the new icon retains the existing style, the color and curvature of the icon are also optimized. It can also be seen from the taskbar concept map that the Fluent Design with the new icon has a better sense of the screen and at the same time it is more coordinated.

Write at the end

Although the fidelity is already high, the above is still only the “PPT version” of Sun Valley before the official announcement. So what do you expect from the “Sun Valley” that will meet us soon!
