The latest single-core performance benchmark for Apple’s M1 8-core ARM CPU has been announced, which is faster than the fastest 8-core products from AMD and Intel. Apple M1 will be used to drive Apple’s next-generation Macbook and Mac product lines, providing single-core performance comparable to current-generation desktop processors from competitors, AMD and Intel relying on the x86 CPU architecture.
The Apple M1 CPU is based on the ARM architecture and is manufactured on TSMC’s 5nm process node. When Apple officially unveiled it, it announced that the M1 will provide the best performance per watt of its kind, while also adopting a unified memory architecture that will reduce the overall power consumption of the chip itself.
The Apple M1 8-core CPU tested here is an 8-core component (4 Firestorm ARM & 4 Ice-Storm cores), with a base frequency of 3.2GHz, which is much lower than the base clock frequency of the two opponents. The Passmark single-threaded performance test of Apple’s M1 8-core ARM CP is impressive. The CPU successfully scored 3550 points in the test, and Intel’s upcoming Core i7-11700K 8-core CPU scored 3542 points in the same benchmark test.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core CPU scored 3506 points. Please note that Intel and AMD processors are based on the latest iterations of their respective CPU architectures. AMD uses its Zen 3 core architecture, which is manufactured on the 7nm TSMC process node, while Intel uses the 14nm Cypress Cove architecture to drive its Rocket Lake series.
Although the performance difference is not very large, and the number of Apple M1 CPUs we have seen is not large, AMD Zen 3 CPU has been launched for some time, so the performance difference is an effective comparison. On the other hand, Intel Rocket Lake is expected to launch the latest micro-updated product in the next few months, seeing functional improvements and higher performance.
