Microsoft Windows 10 adds a batch of File Explorer smooth design icons

According to the Windows Latest report, Microsoft has been committed to the update of Sun Valley (also known as 21H2), bringing a new “Start” menu, operation center, rounded corner UI and other improvements. As part of the Windows 10 “Sun Valley” revision, Microsoft introduced new icons based on Fluent Design for File Explorer folders, recycle bins, etc. in Windows 10 Dev Preview 21343.

These new Fluent Design icons for Microsoft core folders and applications were discovered in the Windows 10 preview. As you can see in the screenshot, Microsoft is testing redesigned icons for documents, downloads, videos, music, recycle bins, and other folders in File Explorer.

The idea is to paint the folder with Fluent Design paint and add color. Currently, “File Explorer” uses flat icons. It is worth noting that the main icon of File Explorer remains the same because it was updated in Windows 10 version 2004, but it may also change in the upcoming preview version.

You know, the first update of 21H1 this year is just a minor update, which is to adjust the settings of Windows Hello, rather than introducing big new features. The new icon will be released to the general public with the Windows 10 21H2 update and is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.

Expect more Fluent Design icons to appear

Microsoft may also be testing new colored icons for other traditional and modern features in Windows 10.

As early as January this year, Microsoft unexpectedly confirmed that it plans to carry out “a comprehensive visual rejuvenation of Windows” later this year. Internally, Microsoft is believed to be testing multiple new layouts of the Start menu, but these changes are not currently intended for the public consumer version.

If this model continues, we will see some new features and visual improvements in the upcoming preview version. If you want to test the new icon now, you need to join the Windows Insider program and register for the Dev Channel. This is the best way to get new features in advance.
