Samsung submits Odyssey Neo trademark or release in the first half of 2021

After introducing several high-resolution displays in the S6, S7, and S8 series, Samsung will also bring a new Odyssey gaming display later this year. Dutch technology blog LetsGoDigital reported that the company is preparing to launch a high-end gaming monitor with a new mini LED backlight.

In addition, the trademark application exposed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) indicated that the machine may officially meet with you in the name of Odyssey Neo. Samsung revealed in a press release earlier this month that the follow-up product of Odyssey G9 will be equipped with Quantum MiniLED panels. Thanks to a more sophisticated LED backlight module, the new display will gain additional brightness and improved image quality.

On March 23, 2021, Samsung Electronics submitted an application for trademark registration of “Odyssey Neo” to the EU EUIPO, UK IPO, Australian IPA, and South Korea’s KIPO, and clearly mentioned the “LED display, “Game monitors, computer monitors” category.

Of course, this is not the first time Samsung has used miniLED backlight technology. For example, in early 2021, the company released a series of QLED TVs with miniLED backlight. The newly added Neo QLED TV product line is also equipped with Quantum Matrix technology and Neo Quantum processor.

A large number of mini LEDs are only 1/40 the size of traditional LEDs, which can bring ultra-deep blacks, bright tones, and a better light control experience, and the enlarged image looks better than before.

Recently, Samsung’s Neo QLED TV product line has also obtained the German VDE’s gaming TV performance certification. On the basis of the standard test process, the certification also focuses on the input lag, HDR, brightness, color and other parameters of the device.

Considering that the Odyssey Neo trademark has already been applied for on multiple continents, Samsung is expected to officially release a new high-resolution curved-screen gaming monitor in the near future (in the first half of 2021/3 months).

With reference to the 49-inch Odyssey G9 model released last year, the suggested retail price of the new curved-screen gaming monitor with miniLED backlight is likely to be no less than 1,500 Euros.
