iPhone shipments in Gulf countries achieve double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of 2020

According to IDC’s market research report, in the fourth quarter of 2020, due to the launch of the iPhone 12 that supports 5G, and the iPhone 11 series last year is still hot, Apple’s iPhone shipments in the Gulf countries have increased by 55 compared to the previous quarter.

Compared with the third quarter, smartphone shipments in the region in the last quarter of this year increased by 2.3% to 2.26 million units. Country-specific points of view, Saudi Arabia accounts for the region’s fourth-quarter smartphone nearly half of the shipments.

However, compared with the previous quarter, its shipments have declined overall. The UAE accounted for 26.1% of smartphone shipments in the region this quarter, an overall increase compared to the third quarter.

On a quarterly basis, Apple’s iPhone shipments increased significantly by 55%, and this increase was mainly due to the iPhone 12 and last year’s iPhone 11 series. IDC senior research analyst Akash Balachandran said that if it were not for shortages in Apple’s supply chain, iPhone shipments would have been more prominent this quarter.

However, Apple still lags behind Samsung, making the latter the leading smartphone manufacturer in the region. Samsung occupies 42% of the GCC countries’ market share, a decrease of 3% from the previous quarter. But it is worth noting that Apple’s market share increased by 7% in the last quarter of this year to 23%.
