The OpenJDK binaries built by Microsoft for Java 11 are based on the OpenJDK source code, follow the same build scripts used by the Eclipse Adoptium project, and are tested according to the Eclipse Adoptium quality assurance suite (including OpenJDK project testing).

The Microsoft version of Java 11 binaries has passed the verification of the Java 11 Java Technology Compatibility Toolkit (TCK), which is used to verify compatibility with the Java 11 specification. The Microsoft Build of OpenJDK can be seen as a simple replacement for any other OpenJDK release in the Java ecosystem.

The Microsoft Build of OpenJDK can also be used by Microsoft Azure customers through Azure Cloud Shell, or in Windows terminals. The company noted that these binaries include retrospective fixes and enhancements that are considered important. However, Microsoft made it clear in the release notes that some of them have not yet officially backtracked upstream.
