Assassin’s Creed is too bloated and some systems need to be cut

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, like many other 3A games, has gone through more than a decade of history. During this period, the “Assassin’s Creed” game has undergone a major transformation, following the trend and adding real-time service elements, and the scale of the game is getting larger and larger.

So “Assassin’s Creed” has developed to this day, how do we view the current “Assassin’s Creed” game? Recently, an author of the PC Gamer pointed out that Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed” is too bloated, and there is no focus, and some systems need to be cut.

The Excerpts Are As Follows:

Assassin’s Creed has never lacked ambition. You don’t expect to take a 15-hour journey through history easily with the assassin’s cloak. Even when you start a new game, you know that you might stay in this game for a few months, sculpting the latest dense epic, which is also a comfort. But these giants have been growing, and each game will accumulate new systems and pastimes. Things seem to be getting out of control.

Even in this era of big games, the scale and density of Assassin’s Creed: Hall of Valor is worth noting. It is a huge, endless thing. The problem is not the size or length of the Hall of Valor-it is the lack of focus. The game is full of various shiny content, such as missions, siege wars, raids and settlement management, etc., all of which are affected by Ubisoft’s distractions.

Starting from Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ubisoft began to truly rethink Assassin’s Creed. The methodical assassination of others has been slowly pushed aside. When the series hit Egypt, it more openly shifted from a stealth game to an action game. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey puts a whole layer of RPG on top of it, which is continued in Assassin’s Creed: Hall of Valor.

But through these big changes, Ubisoft hasn’t really cut anything. All the stealth elements are still there, but it competes with faster, more immediate action RPG battles. With all these traditional systems, and then all the new Viking elements, it all feels too much.

This is not to say that stealth and assassination were thrown into the game without thinking. The design of the entire world takes into account the problem of stealth, although it is easier to enter with an axe, and there is a special assassination system. Unfortunately, Ubisoft made many concessions, extending this process to 100 hours and several huge maps.

Most of the castles, fortresses and villages you sneak through are mixed together and never really offer any unforgettable challenges. And the series of blows were equally insensible. Few of your victims are characters you really know, and killing them is as easy as walking to them and stabbing them.

They tend to just hang out on the benches or take a walk in the town. Hall of Valor does a great job of constructing a huge conspiracy and the idea that you can’t trust anyone, but this is destroyed when you are sent to kill a random blacksmith you have never seen. Although none of this is procedurally generated, it does not feel that it is tailor-made.

Hall of Valor makes you an assassin, but it doesn’t make you feel like an assassin. You will kill a lot of people, but there is no plot, no planning, and no risk if you get caught-it has lost all its appeal.

And if this series is going to continue to grow, I don’t see a solution. A small number of well-designed assassinations is great, but how do you arrange assassinations in a 50-hour game? The system used by Ubisoft (originally in the Odyssey) did not leave much impact, but It always exists.

Even Viking-style things can’t land. For example, a raid may seem exciting. Your team of fighters burned down villages and fortresses, but after you did it a few times, they became repetitive, formulaic activities, with no surprises or real progress.

This is one of the biggest new features of Hall of Valor. You can revolve around the game, but it has become another item on the huge list. It is forced to make room for the garbage like rap and create such a bad dimension. The Beijing Rap Battle should be a crime.

However, “Assassin’s Creed” has never been a game focused on just a few good ideas. It always seems to be pulled in too many directions. Because of its cumbersome legacy: the overall story, this is almost an inherent feature of the series.

It is always much better than science fiction in historical novels, but this is constantly disturbed by Isu, Fragments of Eden, and modern junk plots. The latter at least play a lot less these days, but when you are reminded that you are in Animus and the real role is Layla Hassan, it is even more embarrassing, he is really bad.

I have no problem with the mythological approach in Assassin’s Creed. Just a few paragraphs ago, I said that I wanted more customized assassinations, but these side adventures have never been comfortably integrated into the main story.

Especially Vinland, it feels like something experimental, never really combined. It is not dedicated to its survival theme, but just lets you get liver ore and leather in exchange for equipment, and its rhythm is strange.

Almost everything deserves a place in Hall of Valor, but not everything can be achieved together in one game. Next time, putting some of these things in the vault may be higher. Since “Black Flag”, navigation has not really evolved, so maybe we don’t need to bring it back again and again. Let’s throw away those old mini-games. Go to hell, tradition!

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that Ubisoft would control it. The first DLC of Hall of Valor has not yet come out, we already have multiple seasonal events and a river raid system. There is now an expectation that these games will continue to grow, even after they have come out.

I dream of a single-city “Assassin’s Creed”, with a depth greater than breadth, and with a rebirth system from the beginning. These are likely to be unrealistic. I would love to go to a city like Paris in Assassin’s Creed: Unity again, but this series is developing in another direction with all its strength. No matter what, I will continue to miss it.
