YouTube TV has been removed from Roku’s channel store. Prior to this, Roku and YouTube TV’s parent company Google failed to reach a distribution agreement because Roku accused the technology giant of Google for unfair competition requirements. However, existing YouTube TV users can still use the channel, but new users who hope to download the app from Roku’s channel store will no longer be able to do so. Roku keeps the app available to existing users in order not to get into chaos in the negotiation. Earlier this week, Roku informed customers that if it fails to reach an agreement with Google on a distribution agreement, YouTube TV may be forced to withdraw from its platform. It is worth noting that the dispute between Google and Roku is not due to financial terms.
Roku said that Google’s request includes preferential treatment for its YouTube TV and YouTube apps. Specifically, the platform listed four requirements that Google has deemed anti-competitive, including Google asking Roku to manipulate consumer search results and allow access to data that other companies cannot obtain.

Roku also said that Google is trying to use the power of its YouTube application to force Roku to accept hardware requirements that increase consumer costs and adopt a discriminatory approach to Roku. As previously reported, Roku and Google compete in multiple areas, including smart TV hardware devices, smart TV operating systems, and smart TV content.
The cooperation agreement between the two companies expired on Friday morning. Until the agreement is reached, new YouTube TV subscriptions will not be available in Roku’s channel store. Roku said in a press statement: “We are disappointed that Google allowed our YouTube TV distribution agreement to expire.” Roku did not ask Google for additional financial consideration to update YouTube TV.
YouTube said they are still committed to reaching a good faith agreement with Google. In response to Roku’s initial allegations a few days ago, a YouTube TV spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, Roku often adopts such tactics in negotiations. We are disappointed that as we continue the negotiations, they chose to be unfounded. The argument”.
