Facebook Messenger and Instagram chat will usher in end-to-end encryption in 2022

Facebook has recently received fierce attacks on its privacy and advertising policies, but as a social media giant, the company’s SNS and instant messaging (IM) software still has a considerable number of loyal users.

In order to restore its image to the public to a certain extent, one of the methods is to introduce end-to-end encryption for the Facebook chat service by default. Unfortunately, before 2022, Facebook Messenger and Instagram chat users will not be able to get this guarantee.

As early as 2016, Facebook launched end-to-end encryption on Messenger for the first time. But only when the user manually switches to “Secret Conversations” (Secret Conversations), this feature will be officially enabled in text chat.

At the same time, although Facebook talks about pushing end-to-end encryption to Messenger and WhatsApp, and plans to open up cross-communication across its various platforms, the Instagram platform has not been given equal attention.

Previously, many users expected that Facebook Messenger and Instagram Direct could make significant progress in 2021. But as a long-term project, its default end-to-end chat encryption support has obviously been delayed until 2022. Only recently did Facebook mention it in a blog post entitled “Messenger Strategy Discussion: The Future of Private Messaging”.
