Microsoft originally expected to launch Windows 10X as soon as this year, the operating system it initially built with dual-screen devices in mind, but according to a new report, the entire plan has now been completely changed. The reason could not be simpler: the company hopes to focus on the development of the full version of Windows 10 and complete on time the major update Sun Valley that is expected to be released this fall.
Windows 10X was announced a long time ago as a modern Windows 10 experience specifically created for Windows 10 devices, but Microsoft later confirmed that the new operating system will be launched first and only supports single-screen computers.
And it is precisely because this new dual-screen form factor is not yet ready for the PC market, so Windows 10X is expected to go online with a class of new devices this spring. This is also the reason why Windows 10 21H1 is only a minor update, because Microsoft does not want to launch a wide range of feature updates for Windows 10X and Windows 10 at the same time.

But the plan has changed again, and Windows 10X is no longer expected to be released this year. Instead, what Microsoft wants to do is to focus entirely on the full Windows 10 update that is expected to be launched this fall, currently code-named Sun Valley.
People familiar with the matter have repeatedly stated that “Sun Valley” will be the biggest update that Windows 10 has received so far, with major changes in almost all aspects, including the interface, icons and menus. Microsoft will also include a large number of new features, some of which are already being tested as part of the internal staff program.
The specific release time of Windows 10X has become more confusing, but don’t be too surprised if Microsoft finally abandons such an operating system plan. At present, complete Windows 10 is the most important for the company, especially because last year due to global health issues, people at home picked up their own PCs that were still sealed, and the number of devices running Windows 10 systems soared.
