PowerPoint for Windows will soon allow users to lock selected objects on slides

According to the OnMSFT, Microsoft announced a new feature of PowerPoint for Windows that allows users to lock selected objects on their slides. This update is currently rolling out a preview version to Office Insider and will soon be available to all users.

This new feature will provide an option to lock any objects on the slide, such as shapes and pictures, to prevent others from accidentally moving or editing them. “Did you inadvertently modify the object during the presentation? By locking objects such as shapes, icons, pictures, 3D models, etc., you can now ensure that no accidents happen.” The company explained in a blog post: “In order to modify one Object, you must unlock it first.”

To lock an object in PowerPoint for Windows, the user will need to right-click the shape and select the “lock” option in the context menu. Finally, the user will be able to unlock any object by going to the selection pane and clicking the “unlock” icon next to the object name.

Microsoft pointed out that even if the presentation file is opened on another computer, the shape properties will remain locked. In addition, the object will remain locked in all older versions of Office that support this option.

In general, the ability to lock objects should help companies and educate customers to create PowerPoint templates that follow specific guidelines and rules. However, this feature is only available for Office Insiders on Windows, and it is unclear whether it will also appear on the web and Mac.
