A new rollable Xiaomi’s smartphone with smart speaker design revealed

With the continuous development of flexible screens and hidden camera technology, the shape of future smartphones is obviously not limited to curling and folding. LetsGoDigital pointed out: In March 2020, Xiaomi submitted an interesting design patent application to the State Intellectual Property Office and officially announced it to the outside world on May 11, 2021. From the picture point of view, this concept device has a cylindrical body similar to a speaker but integrates the functions of a retractable screen smartphone.

The document contains a total of 32 product images. Although at first glance it might seem to be Xiaomi’s smart speaker, based on the short text description, it can be seen that it is actually a “rolling screen smartphone.”

In the storage state, the flexible screen can be well hidden in the cylindrical body. However, in order to facilitate the delivery, the side is equipped with a fairly thick handle, and three openings for the rear camera can also be seen on the opposite side (presumably a combination of the main camera + flash + periscope zoom lens).

From the top view, it appears that there is a power button on the top of the fuselage, while the bottom is made up of a number of small openings reserved for large speakers. The strange thing is that I don’t see any connection options in the illustration. I guess it may not support USB-C wired, but a pure wireless power supply solution.

For users pursuing portable multimedia experience, the scalable large screen and large speaker system make it particularly suitable for watching movies or listening to music, or for demonstrating some content to others. As for when the actual product will arrive, it is currently unknown.
