Resetting your Chromecast in 4 steps, check full detail

Do you want to reset your Chromecast, for example, because you encounter a problem? The job is done in under a minute and it potentially saves you a lot of annoyances. In this article, we will tell you how to reset a Chromecast.

Reset Chromecast: This is how you do it in 4 steps

Is your Chromecast running into an inexplicable problem? Has an app recently stopped working properly, or have you recently been tinkering with your WiFi network and the image is now bad? There could be countless reasons why you might want to reset your Chromecast. You have two ways to reset a Chromecast: via the Google Home app or via the device itself. We discuss both ways below.

How to reset a Chromecast:

  • Switch on your Chromecast and go to the correct HDMI channel on your TV;
  • Press and hold the elongated reset button on the back of the Chromecast (at least 25 seconds);
  • The light on the Chromecast will now blink orange. Keep the reset button pressed until the light turns white again;
  • The installation process is restarted on your TV screen.

From now on you can install the Chromecast again. Please note that the HDMI dongle forgets all settings. So you have to reconnect to your WiFi network and reconnect any apps. It is, therefore, better only to reset a Chromecast if other solutions did not help.

It is also possible to reset your Chromecast via the Google Home app. This is simple and especially useful if you cannot easily reach the device itself. For example, if it is completely hidden behind your television. Follow the steps below:

  • Open the Google Home app on your smartphone;
  • Tap on your Chromecast (in the menu) and go to Settings;
  • At the top right, tap More to get more options;
  • Choose Restore to factory settings, confirm your choice and the Chromecast reset will start.
