Apple Music web app leak confirms lossless music streaming feature

The web version of the app that plays Apple’s music tracks in the browser seems to have confirmed that Apple’s previously rumored high-fidelity audio streaming feature has been confirmed to exist. Before its launch, a lossless code reference had appeared in its Android version of the program.

On Sunday, Apple updated the Apple Music app, predicting that the upcoming new features will forever change the way people listen to music. Rumors and leaked information indicate that lossless audio may be added, but Apple’s own code has actually fully confirmed that the feature will be launched soon.

The source code of the Apple Music web version found by 9to5Mac includes many descriptions of lossless and high resolution lossless. These mentions seem to coincide with elements found in the latest beta version of Apple Music for Android and may indicate that the feature will be coming soon.

The code in the web application also mentions Dolby Atmos and Dolby Audio, which may be related to 3D audio. Another rumor is the project that comes with the high-fidelity audio feature. This may be a way to provide customers with audio track processing for use with the spatial audio function of devices such as AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

The bit rate of the music stream provided by lossless audio is much higher than the bit rate normally provided. Although Apple Music is usually available at up to 256kbps, lossless audio can push the bitrate above 1000kbps. Music downloads will also be greater, and the leaked Apple Music Android application guidelines indicate that lossless audio files may take up three times the space of the standard quality version.

There are rumors that Apple will launch lossless audio streaming on May 18, possibly along with the revised entry-level AirPods. There are also speculations that this service may require users to pay an additional $9.99 on the basis of their existing Apple Music subscription.
