Google may use a unique solution to equip the Pixel with an under-screen camera

It is expected that in the next one or two years, under-screen cameras (UDC) will become the norm in smartphones and other products, but people are still worried about photo quality damage due to screen coverage with active pixels.

Google has applied for a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in September 2020. This is a unique solution specifically designed to solve this problem. This means that the photos will remain as perfect as ever, and will not affect the effectiveness of the display.

Their solution uses a secondary display and a movable prism (much like the prism of a periscope camera) to reflect the secondary display onto the primary display to fill in the gap, or to guide the outside light to the front camera.

At the same time, the secondary display still has enough space to accommodate more sensors, such as proximity sensors or infrared sensors, so that as many sensors as possible are installed under the screen, it is convenient to realize a 100% full screen.

However, since this concept is only in patent status, it seems unlikely that such a device will be released this year. However, as competitors increasingly provide cameras under the display, it will be time for Google to bring this technology to the market. It may not belong.
