After upgrading the iOS 14.6, iPhone 12 mini/Pro consumes too much power

After Apple released the official versions of iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6, some users pointed out on social media and online forums that their devices experienced excessive battery consumption after installing software updates.

Apple’s support community and mobile forums are flooded with user posts, claiming that their iOS devices consume more power after the update. A user on the Apple Support Forum pointed out that his iPhone 11 Pro and Apple Smart Cover will consume power faster than normal after the update.

It is worth noting that many factors contribute to the battery life of the device, including its battery health. Users with reduced battery performance will have shorter battery life. However, according to the forum, this issue seems to affect all devices, regardless of the specific battery health.

On the forum, a user pointed out that his iPhone 12 Pro not only consumes power faster than normal but also starts to overheat when simply browsing the Safari browser. An accompanying post stated that the iPhone 12 mini had a similar experience.

In iOS 14.5, Apple has introduced a new battery health recalibration function for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. This new feature allows the system to recalibrate the battery health of the device to resolve potentially inaccurate battery health readings. After the update was released last month, users have noticed that their iPhone 11 battery health has changed after the recalibration process.

After any iOS update, due to the system re-indexing Spotlight and performing other adjustment and management tasks, users can expect to reach normal battery capacity consumption in the next few days. However, the official version of iOS 14.6 was released more than a week ago, and users continue to notice problems with battery consumption on their devices. If this problem is indeed related to the software, Apple may solve this problem in a subsequent update of iOS 14.6, or provide a fix in iOS 14.7, which is currently in beta.
