Apple will adopt OLED screens in some iPad models starting in 2022

According to ETNews, following Apple’s use of mini LED screens in the top-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple also plans to start using OLED screens in some iPad models next year. According to industry insiders, Apple will abandon LCD displays in some iPad models in 2022 and switch to OLED displays, but this certainly does not include the highest-end iPad Pro that has adopted mini LED screens.

In addition, people familiar with the matter also did not specify which models will be converted from LCD to OLED. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously reported that the mid-range iPad Air will be updated to an OLED display as soon as 2022.

Apple currently uses OLED displays on higher-end iPhones and all models of Apple Watch, while the rest are LCD displays. The OLED displays of Apple products are currently provided by Samsung and LG, and it is reported that these two suppliers will continue to provide OLED displays for future iPads.

At the press conference last month, Apple launched a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This model uses a mini LED display for the first time. Compared with LCD, it has smaller particles and a better display effect. It is delicate, brighter, and more energy-efficient than OLED, and supports precise dimming, which will not cause uneven backlighting of LCD. According to foreign media forecasts, Apple will also continue to use mini LED displays in the upcoming MacBook Pro notebooks this year.
